"Before it was about getting people into homes, now it's about keeping them there," she said. "There was a need 10 years ago for default counseling and the need is even bigger now. Hopefully we'll help people get on their feet and not fall into these traps."

"We'll educate people from bottom up," she said "We'll teach them what a good loan is, how to get a good credit card with low interest and keep it low. But it's also for people who want to start a business or just manage their household finances."

Maryellen Hayden, ACORN organizer, said [Louise Craighead-Jenkins]' expertise will be invaluable in setting up the center, which will also serve as an adjunct to ACORN's anti-predatory lending initiative.
