'Newmoves' Big Success at Kelly-Strayhorn

Summary


Day one opened with emerging choreographer Kaylin Horgan's "Tenir Mon Coeur;" followed by [Peter Le Breton Merz]'s "The Far Side of Certainty;" Kate Watson- . Wallace's quirky "STORE" concluded the first half; DAT featured dancer and emerging choreographer [Michael Walsh]'s "Get On Your Soap Box," a comedic look at the world of dance, opened the second half; and Michele de la Reza's and Peter Kope's energetic, "Trapped" concluded the first night to resounding applause.

Day two opened with [Gwen Ritchie]'s "Re: Memory (2)," a piece that, according to murmurs in the audience, sucked some into the performers' frenetic confusion. Emerging choreographer, [Christopher Bandy]'s ballet pas de deux, "Fall," was reminiscent of the choreography by Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson from season four of "So You Think You Can Dance." Sidra Bell provided two works. "Conductivity," which, was performed partly to music and partly to spoken words, concluded the first half, and "Overtures," completed day two of the festival, each receiving an enthusiastic response. The second half featured Maria Caruso's Bodiography, performing "Intimate Liaisons Part Deux," followed by DAT Executive Artistic Director Beth Coming's "Puppet Tears," which lightened the mood.
