"It grew from nothing last year and we've spun it into something prominent across the state," said co-convener Lamonte E. Wilson. "It's crossed over Republican, Democrat and Independent party lines to get things done."

Louis "Hop" Kendrick served as master of ceremonies. When the recommendations were reported from the workshops he called the 15 percent Black voter turnout in the last election "disgraceful."

"We need a unified approach at the local, regional and state level," said presenter Rick Adams. "In Pittsburgh, we should be planning for the 2010 redistricting. With a 30 percent Black population, we can argue for a third Black council seat."
