Summary


Though his earlier releases such as "Mississippi to Mali" and "Daily Bread" showcase his varied musical influencesfrom Basin Street brass to West African polyrhythins, [Corey Harris] said the reggae-dominated "Zion Crossroads" blends all these influences more seamlessly than his past efforts.

Though the album contains political tracks like the cheap labor commentary "Sweatshop" or the homage to slain Guyanese revolutionary "Walter Rodney," Harris said it is his most spiritual release to date. The first track, "Ark of the Covenant" definitely sets the tone.

"I'll go to Ethiopia, Guinea and Mali, but I'm not counting any place out," he said. "The grant makes things a lot easier in terms of making better music and more of it."
