Dorsey's Still Spins the Hits

Summary

Neil Dorsey is able to recite the artist and album titles of today's hottest rap moguls just as well, if not better, than any teenager. His loyal customers of middle age respect his love and taste for jazz music so much they simply ask him to "give them what's good" when they're looking for the latest smooth melodies at Dorsey's Record Shop in Homewood.

"I been coming here since I was like eight-years old back in '92," said Homewood resident Jay Smith, 23, "Mr. Dorsey got everything and he gets it the day before everybody else."

Even the older residents, who recognize Pittsburgh's declining business mode, support the small record shop. Paul Whitt, 62, a long-time Homewood resident, who used to own Athlete's Foot, a Homewood sneaker store on North Homewood Avenue that, closed in the late '90s, commends Dorsey for being able to stay open even through the gang wars of the '90s, which he cites as the main reason he shut down his business.
