Entrepreneur Emphasizes Innovation for Success

Summary


The Minority Business Opportunity Committee's held its 2007 Minority Enterprise Development Celebration Nov. 2 at the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel. This year's theme was "Celebrating the Legacy of Innovations and Competitiveness."

"[At the early age of 8 years old] I became the man of the house," [Robert O. Agbede] said during his keynote address, when speaking about his life after his father passed and what he had done to get where he is. "I [realized I] had to get an education."

Agbede is a University of Pittsburgh graduate with a B.S. and M.S. in mining engineering and has also been installed into the University of Pittsburgh's Engineering Hall of Fame. He also established the Robert O Agbede scholarship and diversity award at the University of Pittsburgh. The award encourages and assists with the recruitment and retention of African-American students and faculty.
