The Clarence James Memorial Scholarship was established by the founders of Hightower Scholars and J.D. [Hightower] and Associates, Inc. in memory of the grandfathers of the organizations' founders. These men were instrumental in supporting, both financially and spiritually, the undergraduate educations of their grandchildren. They embraced and modeled hard work, high moral standards, family values and service to the community. African-American, Hispanic, and Native-American students from western Pennsylvania competed for the $1500 scholarship.
