We live in an extremely remarkable era. African-Americans hold power and responsibility throughout government, signaling the fact that conventional politics is passe. With that knowledge before the community, it's clear that [Jesse Jackson Jr.]'s analysis is astute and perhaps essential for Kerry's hope of winning in November.

His thinking is persuasive. He says a progressive African-American should be on Kerry's ticket for political reasons, not for reasons of paternalism. We concur with the congressman that an African-American vice presidential candidate would promise Kerry's best chance of winning the White House.
