Summary


[Victoria Taylor] was referred to Life'sWork by the Allegheny County's Single Point of Contact Program, which serves people making the transition from welfare to work. Her first job assignment was with the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program.

[Leonard Weitzman] said after returning to Pittsburgh after World War II, he used the GI Bill to earn a master's degree then decided to give his talents to an organization that helped handicapped people find jobs. Life'sWork was the perfect fit.

According to Life'sWork's most recent annual report, it's community rehabilitation programs have served 1,785 people between July 1, 2001 and June 30, 2002. Of that number, 469 or 26 percent were African-American; 811 or 45 percent had some high school education; and 1,040 or 58 percent were under the age of 20. The primary disability of their clients included mental retardation, physical and learning disabilities and drug and alcohol and vision impairment.
