Noble Remembers Chief 'Mugsy' Moore at Banquet

Summary


Each year the Pittsburgh chapter of NOBLE holds a banquet in Moore's honor. Moore was the first Black police chief of Pittsburgh. He changed the way Black people were viewed in the eyes of law enforcement.

"He [Moore] rose from patrolman to chief," said Louis "Hop" Kendrick, master of ceremonies at the banquet. "He had a national reputation for toughness and fairness."

"We have more African-American supervisors that go from the ranks of sergeant to chief than there has been," said Diane Richard, public information officer for the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. "It is not enough, but it is a start."
