Summary
The University of Pittsburgh is very fortunate to have a men's and women's basketball program that seems to be clicking on all cylinders. OK, ladies first. After a successful week in which the Lady Panthers defeated Ohio University 69-55 a game in which Shavonte Zellous scored 21 and Marcedes Walker contributed 20 points and 10 rebounds, Agnes Berenato and her Lady Panthers successfully opened their home schedule at the Peterson Events Center. Meanwhile, Jaimie Dixon and the Panthers Men's squad were a few blocks away handling the Duquesne Dukes. Gateway High School alum 6-1 freshman Shayla Scott contributed 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocked shots recording her first double double, a very impressive stat line for the Big East freshman. Scott's ability to play at least four positions for the Lady Panthers is creating mismatches for opposing teams. Scott is a very long guard and creates problems for opposing guards both offensively and defensively. She has the range and ball skills to create mismatches from the outside and has the strength and size to present problems on the low post as well. After their successful home debut, the Lady Panthers traveled to the Maggie Dixon classic where 15th ranked Duke barely escaped with a 51-49 victory. Zellous and Jania Sims both scored 17 points for Pitt (6-3).
