It is obvious that he was not fired for any of the reasons above and it is just as obvious that the majority of the Pittsburgh School Board members had decided, under no circumstances could he stay. They had made up their minds that even if the Emancipation Proclamation gave freedom to Blacks, that this 6' 5" well educated, well dressed, outspoken Black man must understand that the majority rules and they are in a definite majority, for better or worse.
One of the local elected officials said that he was present at the installation of officers for the NAACP and that every person in attendance-man, woman or child-stood in recognition of a job well done by Dr. [John Thompson, Ph.D.].
