A number of years later Attorney Byrd R. Brown would be a candidate for the office of Mayor of Pittsburgh. He was the most qualified candidate in the history of the city but the newspapers said, "Byrd was eminently qualified, but in good conscience they could not endorse Attorney Brown because he had no experience as a mayor."

A perfect example was the Pittsburgh mayoral race held yesterday, Nov. 8. There were four candidates running for the position. The Libertarian candidate raised no money and the write-in candidate raised no money. Disgracefully, the Republican Party with unlimited resources raised no money for their endorsed candidate and those who raised $1 million for the Democratic candidate were able to purchase a mayor who will reimburse them tenfold. They will receive appointments to boards that control untold sums of money and property, contracts, professional services, slot licenses, and other things.
