Weekend Celebrates 200 Years of Black Presbyterianism

Summary


This year marks over 200 years of Black Presbyterianism. The Pittsburgh Chapter of the Black Presbyterian Caucus has been hosting a series of events slated to recognize this recorded span to time in which African-Americans have participated in the denomination. It is important to note that of the 154 Presbyterian Churches in Pittsburgh only five are predominantly African-American. They are Homewood's Bethesda Presbyterian Church, Rev. Eugene Blackwell, pastor; North Side's Bidwell Presbyterian Church, Rev. DeNeice Welch (replacing her husband Rev. John Welch, who left Bidwell to become the new Dean of Students at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary), the Hill's Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church, Rev. Dr.
